Job Description:

SUMMARY: Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the special education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Prepares, implements, and evaluates IEPs (including transition plans and behavior management plans) for each assigned student based on individually assessed needs, in accordance with district procedures

 Obtains and monitors present levels of functioning/baselines for students with special needs and maintains data collection to show level of progress

 Provides direct individual and small group instructional services as needed to assigned students with special needs

 Designs learning experiences and utilizes adaptive devices/technology to provide access to general curricular content to individuals with disabilities

 Collaborates with general education teachers to ensure student success in the least restrictive environment

 Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and assessed special needs

 Identifies and collaborates with district, community, and agency services to meet the needs of students with special needs

 Participates on the school-based intervention team, in-school staffing team and in the screening processes, as appropriate

 Participates on evaluation teams for students as appropriate

 Monitors and oversees services provided by paraprofessionals and/or other support personnel assigned to classroom and/or student in classroom

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education

 Teaching certificate with Cross Categorical/Learning Disabilities special education endorsement
