Job Description:

KUSD is seeking a dynamic school career counselor to join our high school community. The school career counselor reports directly to the site principal in collaboration with the CTE coordinator and is responsible for working directly with District staff (counselors, CTE Department, teachers), WAVE, and Mohave Community College to help students prepare for their future and increase the number of students accessing and succeeding in a variety of career pathways.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.
  2. Inform, coordinate, recruit, support, enroll and monitor students participating in the various instructional programs offered by the District – Instructional Time Model, WAVE, Dual Enrollment – with Mohave Community College.
  3. In coordination with the guidance office, provide individual/group counseling/coaching to students to support their post-secondary education and career goals. Be aware of multiple measures necessary for admittance to post-secondary programs and guide students to meet these measures.
  4. Stay current on trends, opportunities and resources related to post-secondary education and careers in order to develop and implement career development programs, workshops and events to help students, teachers and families plan for the future.
  5. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and community organizations to provide students with a variety of opportunities to gain real-world experience and exposure to different careers.
  6. Enter, maintain, manage, monitor and report District/school data pertaining to established goals.
  7. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to career counseling/coaching and post-secondary education. Implement professional development for faculty focused on college and career readiness to create a culture of success in multiple pathways. Teach career-based lessons to students.
  8. Prepare, promote and participate in marketing/recruitment activities for the District.
  9. Interact with middle/high school students and families to provide guidance and resources on: college and career options, academic planning/preparation, career exploration, college visits/applications, financial aid planning/FAFSA completion/scholarship searches, transition activities/work-based learning, enrichment activities, and events.
  10. Support District initiatives aimed at maintaining enrollment, increasing student performance and reducing learning loss.
  11. In partnership with KUSD, act as a liaison between students, parents, partners, community college, business/industry and WAVE.
  12. Assist with Major Clarity objectives at all grade levels, using the data to inform decision making.
  13. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all policies, regulations and rules.
  14. Perform related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment

This job primarily operates within the school environment. Some traveling is required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, contracted for 162 days. Employee will typically work Monday through Thursday but may need to work flexible and/or extended hours.

 

Required Education, Experience and Certifications/Licenses

  • Master’s or more advanced degree from an accredited institution to include completion of a graduate program in guidance and counseling
  • Experience as a classroom teacher, administrator or program manager
  • Standard School Counselor, PreK-12 Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience providing career counseling and guidance.

 

Required Certifications/Licenses

Valid driver’s license

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Salary Range: $50,034-$60,034 per year; 162 contracted days between July 8, 2024 and June 12, 2025
