Job Description:

The Athletic Director will provide leadership and direction for the MIT campus athletic programs and ensure that students, parents, staff and the community are provided a positive athletic experience at Maricopa Institute of Technology.

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Support the mission, vision, core values, and goals of Maricopa Institute of Technology.
  2. Works with the schools to develop a district-wide master schedule for the athletic program sports, activities, tournaments and events to ensure uniformity and coordination with safety first.
  3. Develops athletic policies with input from district, principal, athletic directors, and coaches.
  4. Develops a District-wide athletic program policy and guidebook with input from district, principal, athletic directors, and coaches and update annually.
  5. Provides athletic assistance and guidance to schools in interpretation of Board policy.
  6. Assists in the evaluation and selection of athletic equipment by following procurement state and federal laws.
  7. Serves as a consultant within the District on all athletic programs and construction projects.
  8. Monitors the District athletic program for compliance with gender equity.
  9. Assists in writing grant proposals and manage grants as needed.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of athletic administration as it relates to secondary schools.
  11. Serves as the School and District liaison.
  12. Coordinates the provisions of athletic training with local community agencies and organizations with school and district approval.
  13. Coordinates the provisions for physical examinations for all athletes with local community agencies and organizations in alignment with state and federal law.
  14. Coordinates the maintenance of athletic facilities with schools, organizations, and various District departments.
  15. Conducts periodic athletic director meetings for the purpose of program planning and coordination.
  16. Assists the schools to promote publicity for all interscholastic sports, such as sports brochures and other publications, press releases and radio releases with school and district approval.
  17. Fosters good community relationships by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic programs.
  18. Maintains a close working relationship with District and school personnel to ensure information exchange, coordination, and support for the decision-making process and the collection of feedback concerning services.
  19. Responds to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
  20. Keeps the Headmaster informed about potential problems or unusual events
  21. Attends all local, district, regional, state, and national meetings that are necessary to the functioning of the athletic program.
  22. Promotes professional growth and enrichment by encouraging athletic directors and coaches to be members of professional athletic organizations and to participate in approved clinics, conferences, and required compliance seminars with school and district approval.
  23. Coordinates the development and implementation of the District Athletic Coaching Endorsement Add-On Certification Program.
  24. Assists coaches in keeping abreast of current practices, programs, legal issues, and care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  25. Keeps well-informed about current trends and best practices in content, service, or project areas.
  26. Maintains expertise in assigned areas to fulfill project goals and objectives.
  27. Sets high standards and expectations for self and others.
  28. Assists in developing and implementing District athletic budget.
  29. Coordinates the purchase of athletic equipment.
  30. Coordinates the establishment of admission prices for all athletic events.
  31. Seeks assistance and support for the financing of the athletic program in alignment to district policy, state, and federal guidelines.
  32. Assists in maintaining appropriate coordination among the various programs related to athletic services.
  33. Prepares and submits required reports and maintain appropriate records.
  34. Assists in developing and implementing the department budget.
  35. Supports the goals and priorities of the District.
  36. Represents the District in a positive and professional manner.
  37. Performs other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
  38. Provides school/s with necessary leadership that will enable all schools to develop their individual athletic programs to the fullest extent.
  39. Encourages schools to provide athletic opportunities to all students. Establish annual athletic program goals and objectives.
  40. Implements an annual evaluation of the athletic program.
  41. Supports and participates in the implementation of the District's Strategic Plan.
  42. Utilizes appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions concerning planning, utilization of funds, delivering services, and evaluation of services provided.
  43. Uses appropriate styles to motivate, gain commitment, and encourage positive change or task accomplishment.
  44. Help establish fundraising for Sports Program aligned to school and district policies.
  45. Ensure MIT/EEF stay in compliance with CAA.
  46. Performs other duties as assigned.

Facilities:

  1. Coordinates preparation and cleaning of facilities/fields with the Maintenance Department.
  2. Examines all playing arenas to make sure they are fit for play.
  3. Coordinates the preparation for all home contests and events.
  4. Supervises or directs clean-up after contests.
  5. Submits work orders for necessary facility repairs or routine maintenance.
  6. Required to be familiar with the gym, building, and athletic field use.
  7. Familiarity with the gym, building, and athletic field use.

Travel:

  1. Schedules away game transportation with the Transportation Department.
  2. Steps into coach and/or transport a team, as needed.

Student Eligibility:

  1. Works with coaches and administration to verify the eligibility of each athlete by monitoring class attendance, behavior, and academic progress.
  2. Maintains student academic eligibility records.
  3. Works with coaches to present the student code of conduct, ensure students sign the document and keeps records of completion for the athletic league.
  4. Maintain records of all required files for coaching staff
  5. Provides verification of the eligibility of all athletes.
  6. Ensures that all student athletes are insured.
  7. Collects and maintains on file a properly completed physical card for every student participating in athletics.
  8. Verify the eligibility of all athletes.

Equipment:

  1. Designs/Orders team uniforms that align with team needs and athletic budget.
  2. Coordinates and keeps record of uniform distribution.
  3. Coordinates the purchase, reconditioning and storage of athletic equipment.
  4. Coordinates athletic budgets, working with coaches to ensure equity across all sports.
  5. Manages the ordering, inventory, repairing and cleaning of all sport specific equipment.

Meetings:

  1. Attends athletic league meetings.
  2. Calls for and conduct meetings with coaches and related staff.
  3. Plans, organizes, and coordinates meetings to share information about sportsmanship and player/parent conduct and expectations with families.

Safety:

  1. Works with coaches and school administration to ensure all students are off campus before leaving home events.
  2. Maintains safety and order during all home and away events to implement a COVID-19 Mitigation Plan, aligned to district policy, state, and federal guidelines.
  3. Maintains records and ensures appropriate training, including first aid training, for all coaching staff. 4. Completes reports for injury, accidents and other incidents.
  4. Provides supervision of home athletic contests as required by league and school administration

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be appropriately certified with a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate in subject area
  2. Demonstrates the knowledge of Arizona Education System/Arizona Charter Board System
  3. Demonstrates the knowledge of Arizona High School Athletics
  4. Must have a valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  5. Must be able to pass Driving Background Check & Criminal Background Check
  6. Experience Head Coaching

WORK CONDITIONS:

  1. The working environment is fast paced, focused on student achievement, and revolves around positive staff and community.  The working environment is primarily an office and outside setting with some travel between partnered schools and school district.
