Job Description:

The Governing Board of the Seligman Unified School District #40 announces a search for a new District Superintendent/Principal. Qualified applicants are invited to apply for this exceptional opportunity.

 

Seligman Unified School District Profile

 

The Seligman Unified School District, a rural K-12 district of 194 students (18% Hispanic, 26% Native American, 48% White, 2% Black, 6% Asian) has an elementary and high school located on the same campus. The district prides itself with a newly renovated gymnasium and an Olympic sized indoor swimming pool. A new modern science lab has been built in one of the district’s historic buildings. Currently, 135 students are enrolled K-8, with 59 high school age students.

 

The school is located a block north of Historic Route 66. Students attend school Monday through Thursday. The district offers both academic and CTE programs for grades 6-12.

Seligman is located in northern Arizona, just off I-40 between Flagstaff and Kingman. Seligman is the birthplace of the Arizona Historic Route 66. The old and the new are both found in this eclectic town. Many of Arizona’s natural wonders and tourist attractions are within driving distance, including the Grand Canyon, Havasu Canyon, Sedona/Oak Creek and the Grand Canyon Caverns. A wide range of opportunities abound for the outdoorsman. Hiking and hunting opportunities are available in this rural community. With an elevation of 5,250 feet, Seligman offers a full range of seasonal changes, from warm summer days to snow filled winter days. Superintendent/Principal Position Requirements

The Governing Board of the Seligman Unified School District is seeking as its next Superintendent/Principal an experienced educator who will serve as the District’s Superintendent and Principal. They are seeking a leader with a collaborative leadership style who is committed to students and staff reaching their potential and supporting the vision and mission of the school district.

 

The ideal candidate will have prior teaching and administrative experience, be familiar with Arizona financing and education laws, and have experience with writing grants. A Superintendent/Principal with a strong vision for academic excellence, who can build unity and support for Seligman USD is desired. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in change leadership.

 

Instructional staff works a four-day work week (Monday through Thursday). Some Fridays are used for instructional staff professional development and student interventions.

Candidate Essential Qualifications

 

Prior experience as a principal or building level administrator preferred.

Arizona Principal Certification required at time of application or in the process of applying. Arizona Superintendent Certification preferred.

Minimum of three years as a classroom teacher.

Master’s Degree including credits in educational leadership.

Hands-on experience in curriculum development and alignment with State Standards.

Position Salary and Contract

 

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000. The actual salary for the successful candidate will be determined during contract negotiations and will be based on experience and professional preparation. The District offers a competitive benefit package, including free onsite housing with free utilities, which will be finalized during contract negotiations.

Seligman Unified School District has engaged the services of the Arizona School Boards Association to direct a search for qualified candidates. Each finalist will visit the district at his/her expense to be interviewed by the Governing Board. Governing Board members may visit the communities of selected candidates as part of the final selection process. To receive consideration, an applicant’s file must be completed and filed with ASBA

May 17, 2024 , 12 Noon Arizona time. The projected search schedule includes a one interview process with the Governing Board. However, the Board may add a second interview to the process.
