Job Description:

Tanque Verde Unified School District is seeking a Transportation Manager.

This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit eligible position. This job is open to internal and external candidates.
We are seeking someone who will make sure the Transportation Department is well-functioning in terms of planning and implementing activities of bus drivers and providing children with efficient and safe transportation.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Plans, publishes and implements the bus schedules for the district.
- Recommends extension of routes or changes in schedules to offer a safe service for children.
Assigns equipment to best meet the needs of the district.
- Coordinates communication operations, and assignment of drivers to get best use of routes,
time management and human resources.
- Inspects buses for such factors as cleanliness, safety and appearance and takes required
actions to meet prescribed standards.
- Processes parent complaints when appropriate and initiates corrective actions designed to
improve student safety.
- Initiates investigations into causes of accidents, interviews operators concerned to determine
responsibility and takes actions on findings or submits reports to the district office. Responsible
for drug testing of drivers if an accident occurs.
- Evaluates bus drivers on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Develops and administers transportation budget in coordination with the Business Manager.
- Responsible for preparation and submission of all required state reports.
- Dispatches replacement vehicles involved in accidents of buses that are mechanically
impaired.
- Directs and participates in training of personnel and issues manuals, bulletins, and technical
guides to improve services and operational activities.
- Schedules school activity trips.
- Communicates student discipline through appropriate building administrators.
- Responsible for driver timesheets being submitted to the district in an accurate and timely
manner.
- Responsible for hiring, coaching, disciplining, and termination of employees, with guidance
from the supervisor.
- Will perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma.
• One year of experience driving buses, trams or passenger vans; or any combination of passenger driving experience with a former chauffeur’s driver’s license, AND,
• Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) upon employment, AND
• Possession of a safe driving record; AND
• Successfully pass mandatory physical examination, AND
• Agree to participate in annual random drug and alcohol testing, AND
• Complete mandatory CRP and First Aid class.

 
Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
