Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Wellness Fitness Supervisor. This position will plan, develop, and implement wellness and physical fitness programs, and provides technical and instructional assistance for fitness programs participants. The Wellness Fitness Supervisor will manage the day to day operations and marketing of a community college fitness center.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of partial remote work depending on business needs.

Essential Functions

20% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of staff; coordinates the maintenance of the facility

15% - Plans, develops and implements wellness programs: district, employee, student, community and third party; evaluates program effectiveness and makes improvement recommendations

15% - Coordinates programs and schedules; maintains class and fitness program records

10% - Develops, prepares and distributes marketing materials and related communications; identifies program opportunities involving businesses and the community

10% - Demonstrates fitness techniques and equipment usage; provides technical and instructional assistance to program participants; troubleshoots and performs minor maintenance on fitness equipment

10% - Prepares and monitors assigned budget and program expenditures; coordinates merchandise inventory and sales; evaluates equipment needs and makes recommendations for equipment acquisition or replacement

10% - Provides customer service to staff, students, faculty, the local community, Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and others

5% - Collaborates with the Fitness and Wellness department programs and other campus divisions/departments

5% - Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in exercise physiology, physical fitness or directly related field and two (2) years full-time equivalent of experience in the management and coordination of a fitness center including performing fitness assessments, developing workout prescriptions and/or circuit training.

OR

Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in exercise physiology, physical fitness or directly related field and four (4) years full-time equivalent of experience in the management and coordination of a fitness center including performing fitness assessments, developing workout prescriptions and/or circuit training.

OR

High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years full-time equivalent of experience in the management and coordination of a fitness center including performing fitness assessments, developing workout prescriptions and/or circuit training.

Desired Qualifications

A. National certification from American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) or American Council on Exercise (ACE)

B. Fitness center operational and budget management experience

C. Experience working in an educational institution

D. Fitness center tracking software experience

E. Group exercise program management experience and/or has a group exercise certification

F. Employee wellness program experience

G. Experience with Healthways (Silver Sneakers), Healthy Contributions, and American Specialty Health (Silver and Fit) procedures including applications, billing, member enrollment and eligibility

Special Working Conditions

• Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.

• Will be required to travel or be assigned to other MCCCD locations.

• May be required to work evenings and weekends.

• May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

• This position requires a physical presence on campus to best serve the students, department, and college.

• Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at heights.

• Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily
