Job Description:

Kingman Unified School District invites you to apply for this full-time Lee Williams High School Counselor position for the 2024-25 school year. 

Summary/Objective

Advise and assist students and provide educational guidance services.

Essential Functions

  1. Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.
  2. Assess and counsel students based on observations, conversations and test results.
  3. Provide support services in the areas of academic programs, team teaching, school rules, and other matters.
  4. Counsel individual students to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their education.
  5. Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss children’s progress, resolve behavioral, academic, and other problems, and to determine priorities for students and their developmental needs.
  6. Provide crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur.
  7. Refer severe problems to appropriate community resources.
  8. Provide personal counseling for students, families and groups relative to self-understanding, acceptance of responsibility, and decision-making skills.
  9. Provide group counseling to promote interaction and communication, and to support skill development.
  10. Prepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
  11. Administer tests in areas such as organization, memory skills, aptitude and preferences, as appropriate.
  12. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  13. Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed
  14. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all policies, regulations and rules
  15. Perform related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner

Physical Demands

  1. Regularly required to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information with faculty, students, and visitors.
  2. Regularly required to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess details as needed to complete job functions.
  3. Regularly required to remain stationary.
  4. Regularly required to move around office and locations as needed.
  5. Ability to position self as needed in line with safety guidelines to complete tasks.
  6. Ability to move, transport, position, put, install, and remove items up to 50 pounds as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time salaried position, contracted for 148 days between July and May. Employee will typically work ten hours per day Monday through Thursday, excluding non-contracted break periods. Employee may need to work extended hours.

Required Education and Experience

One of the following:

  1. Completion of a graduate program in guidance and counseling from an accredited institution; -OR-
  2. Completion of a graduate program counseling, social work, or psychology from an accredited institution; -OR-
  3. A valid license as an associate counselor, professional counselor, master or clinical social worker, or marriage and family therapist issued by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners; -OR-
  4. Completion of a graduate program in academic advising from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education and Experience

One of the following:

  1. Practicum: Completion of a supervised counseling practicum in school counseling from an accredited institution; -OR-
  2. School Counseling Experience: Verification of two years of full-time experience as a school counselor; - OR
  3. Teaching Experience: Verification of three years of full-time teaching experience.

Required Certifications/Licenses

Standard School Counselor, PreK-12 Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
