TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-Month Work Calendar, Approved Administrative Compensation Plan, and Benefits in Accordance with Board Policies.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Exceptional Student Services will supervise the personnel, educational programs and related activities for Exceptional Student Services department; respond to the directives of the Arizona Department of Education; and perform other designated general administration duties.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (essential functions)
- Provide leadership and direction for the development and implementation of Exceptional Student Education programs.
- Assist with developing educational specifications for schools.
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the District’s Exceptional Student Education programs and priorities
- Develop and supervise an annual budget for ESS based on assessed needs, District goals and priorities and long- and short-term objectives
- Determine student eligibility for special programs, consistent with federal, state, and District policies, rules, and laws.
- Assure that parents have been appropriately informed of the students’ recommended educational assignment and of their due process rights.
- Coordinate with faculty on grant and course implementation.
- Assist school staffs in preparing for audits and responding to citations.
- Keep abreast of laws, regulations, and policies related to Exceptional Student Education.
- Respond to Due Process requests, Office of Civil Rights complaints, and parental complaints beyond the school level.
- Make and share decisions in a timely manner.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of current trends and research in exceptional student education, issues related to exceptional education curriculum and instructional techniques; rules, regulations, statutes, policies, special programs, and procedures affecting disabled individuals on a federal, state, or local level.
- Knowledge of litigation affecting disabled individuals.
- Knowledge of and ability to use student database systems
- Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
- Knowledge of district rules of conduct.
- Skill in organize and conduct meetings, to provide conflict resolutions, to communicate, plan and disseminate precise information and interpretations of technical issues related to exceptional student education
- Skill in providing consultation and advice to teachers, parents, principals, and District staff on exceptional student education policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.
- Skill in performing first aid and CPR.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
- Skill with verbal and written communications
Other:
Salary Range: $105,000 - $126,000
