Job Description:

Summary/Objective

Assist the Principal in the administration of instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development. Responsible for day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff and activities. Ensure a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere.

Essential Functions

  2. Serve as administrative head of school in the absence of the principal
  3. Administer a program of student discipline and interact with students to encourage positive performance
  4. Assist with staff evaluations
  5. Assist in management of building staff, including class schedules and building problems
  6. Assist in scheduling special events during the school day
  7. Assist with the development and coordination of the master schedule
  8. Provide general supervision to students
  9. Supervise extracurricular activities
  10. Maintain positive relationships with parents and the community

Supervisory Responsibility

In conjunction with the school principal, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  1. Regularly required to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information with faculty, students, and visitors.
  2. Regularly required to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess details as needed to complete job functions.
  3. Regularly required to remain stationary, type, and focus on a computer screen for long periods of time.
  4. Ability to move, transport, position, put, install, and remove items up to 10 pounds as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position, contracted for 172 days. Incumbent may regularly work extended hours in the performance of duties.

Required Education and Experience

Master's or more advanced degree from an accredited institution with completion of applicable coursework relative to obtaining a Principal, PreK-12 certificate through the Arizona Department of Education and three or more years of full-time teaching experience in PreK-Grade 12; or, any combination of education and experience that will allow the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of the position and obtain appropriate licensure through the State of Arizona.

Required Certifications/Licenses

  1. Arizona Standard Professional Principal, PreKindergarten-12 Certificate
  2. Valid driver's license

Preferred Education and Experience

Administrative experience in a school environment

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal history check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
