JOB TITLE:                                     Teacher  

SUPERVISOR:                                School Principal 

DEPARTMENT:                              Academic

TERM:                                            09 Months

JOB SUMMARY: To guide and assist the students in learning subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, capable, and responsible citizens.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     

1.       Meets and instruct assigned classes in the locations and time designated.

2.      Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students in accordance with state and school requirements for curriculum.

3.      Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.

4.      Prepares for instruction on a daily basis. Show written evidence of instructional planning following established school format.

5.      Organize and plan classroom grading system, assignments, and contact information for parents/guardians’ conferences and administrative oversight.

6.      Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Based on these goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc.

7.       Encourages students to set and maintain acceptable standards of classroom behavior.

8.      Implements and monitors all school improvement goals set by the district.

9.      Integrates Navajo Nation Title X Language and Culture standards into the curriculum.

10.   Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students.

11.    Instructs students to become self-directed learners consistent with GAHS mission and vision.

12.   Assess, measures student learning, understands, and applies learned knowledge about student growth and development in order to provide maximum student learning.

13.   Implements the school’s philosophy of education, the instructional goals and objectives.

14.   Participates in school goal setting, achievement and provides evidence of formative and summative assessments.

15.   Monitors student academic progress on a regular basis and updates student progress reports on the school’s management system Infinite Campus.

16.   Recognizes the learning disabilities of students and provide and appropriate instructional program to meet those needsand attends IEP Meetings.

17.   Enforces safety precautions and guidelines to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

18.   Maintains accurate attendance and grades, completes, and corrects records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations.

19.   Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student behavior and conduct. Classroom SOPs, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and equitable manner.

20.  Makes provisions to be available for educational related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.

21.   Plans and supervise purposeful assignments for tutors, substitute teachers, and paraprofessionals in the instructional processes of their classes.

22.  Maintains and improve personal/professional competence by attending approved Professional Growth and Development conference, workshops, meetings, and university level courses.

23.  Prepares substitute handbook and lesson plans in a timely manner.

24.  Enforces and follow the policies and administrative regulations of the school.

25.  To guide and assist students in learning subject matter and emotional intelligent skills to contribute to their development as productive responsible citizens.

26.  Attend IEP Meetings and be prepared to report out on student progress reports.

27.  Adhere to CDC guidelines, clean, disinfect surfaces and equipment's on high touched areas, follow SDS specifications, maximize fresh air ventilation, wear PPE during cleaning process, regularly wash hands, and use hand sanitizer. Wear face mask.

28.  Demonstrate a high level of employee morale to promote a positive and productive work environment for all stakeholders.

29.  Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Must meet the requirement for a valid Secondary Education Certificate through the Arizona Department of Education in English Language Arts;

·         A Passing score on the Professional Knowledge secondary portion of the AEPA;

·         Skill in the following teaching areas:  instructional skills, planning skills, knowledge and use of materials, knowledge of content, classroom management skills, and human relations, personal/professional skills;

·         Successful employment history for three (3) consecutive years with one employer;

·         Must pass Federal, State, and Tribal background checks;

·         Must have a Basic First Aid, CPR certification and Food Handlers Permit;

·         Must have a valid Arizona State Driver’s License;

·         Such alternative qualifications as the School Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Completed two or more successful years of teaching experience at a secondary level;

·         Understanding and respect for Native American Culture, Heritage, and Language.
