Position Type: Certified TeacherDepartment: Middle SchoolSalary Schedule: CertifiedReports to: PrincipalTerm of Employment: 9 monthsLocation: Middle SchoolPOSITION SUMMARY: To create a flexible learning environment that is conducive to teaching, learning, and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for upper grades in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents/guardians and with other staff members; to work in a partnership with students, staff, parents/guardians and the community in accordance with the district’s vision and mission to promote student achievement. JOB GOAL: To support the District’s vision, mission, core values, goals, procedures, and policies in the best interest of the students by professionally carrying out assigned duties and participating in the improvement and refinement of related areas. To coordinate program resources to promote the educational development of each student.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Arizona Teacher Certificate (K-8)
  • Early Childhood Certificate
  • Authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Arizona Department of Education certification requirements
  • ESSA (Highly Qualified) qualifications
  • Teaching experience and SEI endorsement preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises assigned Instructional Assistant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject matter, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences.
  • Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students in the classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Utilizes effective instructional strategies based on standards in daily instruction.
  • Plans highly effective lessons using the state’s standards, the school’s curriculum, effective strategies, resources, and data to meet the needs of all students by differentiating instruction that provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
  • Engages students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses all relevant data to measure student academic progress, guide instructional content and delivery methods, and provides timely feedback to both students and parents throughout the school year.
  • Uses resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, safe, student-centered environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Monitors academic performance indicators (AIMS Web Math, DIBELS) in alignment with continuous improvement plans.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains a commitment to professional ethics, communicates effectively, takes responsibility for and participates in professional growth.
  • Requires students to demonstrate 21st Century skills; critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and technology in and outside of the classroom.
  • Remains current on laws and requirements regarding Early Childhood Education and meets with relevant staff to interpret and to implement these requirements.
  • Communicates and works with parents/guardians to encourage their engagement in school activities.
  • Teaches the district adopted programs with fidelity and initiates program improvement strategies (when necessary) for supplemental reading, writing, and math.
  • Attends district, tribal and state meetings and/or professional development training.
  • Provides support related to all initiatives related to curriculum.
  • Provides support as needed related to the implementation of reading initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
