Arizona Autism Charter School, our state’s first and only autism-focused charter school, is expanding and hiring an Academic Counselor/Post-Secondary Outcomes Specialist to serve students in grades 8-12! This role will ensure students are ready for postsecondary opportunities in vocational programs, the workforce, community colleges, and/or universities.
Duties:
- Lead project to update graduation pathways for AZACS high school students
- Work with students and their families to identify desired and attainable post-secondary placements and develop a robust plan with measurable goals to ensure students are ready for that option when they graduate from AZACS.
- Ensure matriculation in post-secondary options before students graduate from AZACS.
- Maintain individual and aggregate data on each student’s postsecondary goals and steps to achieve them, and present this information to the executive team and other stakeholders as requested.
- Support students’ ability to engage in internal and external internships and identify when they can engage in those internships based on their pathways to graduation.
- Establish and lead the AZACS Alumni Association.
- Ensure students who have exited high school are contacted and administered the Post-School Outcomes Survey, which is designed to capture student engagement in post-secondary education/training or employment.
- Maintain the Education and Career Action Planning (ECAP) process for all high school students in the Academic and Modified programs.
- Collaborate with the Functional Academic (FA) program managers and teachers to create an Education and Career Action Planning (ECAP) process for those students.
- Collect and record information about the student for the use of the professional staff in I.E.P. meetings relating to credits and credit attainment. A close relationship with the registrar is essential in this task.
- Will administer and/or oversee transition assessments for all students receiving IEP services for Academic and Modified Program students, including EdReady assessments for community colleges.
- Prepare transcripts at the end of each year and organize them accordingly
- Read transcripts as they arrive for new students and help develop their 4-year or 4-year+ pathway to graduation.
- Lead Family Nights for 8th graders to provide information about High School pathways.
- Facilitate family data meetings to ensure families know where a student lies in their pathway to graduation.
- Support connections to community colleges and universities, including facilitation of college and university visits as needed with students and families
- Launch a Dual Enrollment Program at the community college level, identify students who would benefit from this program, and support their engagement and success in dual enrollment.
- Serve on the graduation committee.

Other:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Counseling certificate from the Arizona Department of Education
- Special Education experience preferred
- Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers, and professional contacts courteously and professionally and following AZACS guidelines
- Experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and structured teaching preferred
- Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
