Job Description:

Responsible for functioning as a professional manager over major functions of the Exceptional Student Services Department as well as supporting the design, implementation and operation of a District-Level initiative that impacts the Exceptional Student Services Department.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is professional level, supervisory classification responsible for overseeing Special Education programs, providing job-embedded professional development; evaluating staff; administering budgets; coordinating programs serving students with disabilities; contributing to project evaluation activities; serving as liaison with outside partners; representing the District at projectrelated activities; providing assistance to administrators and teachers; supervising assigned staff, and ensuring that project activities support student achievement

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the District’s needs.

* In-person attendance is an essential function of this classification.

• Supervise and coordinate special education services for student with disabilities
ensuring they are implemented in alignment with federal, state, and local polices.

• Work with school administrators to assess and improve special education programs
Preschool through Grade 8, ensuring they meet the academic, social, and behavioral
needs of students.

• Ensure that special education services are provided in accordance with the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other
relevant legislation.

• Help oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized
Education Programs (IEPs) for students, ensuring that all required team members are
involved and that goals are appropriate.

• Oversee department services, which include, but are not limited to, alternative
assessment, Extended School Year programming, parentally-privately placed and
home school services, home instruction and homebound services, Section 504, threat
assessments, health services, developmental and preschool programs districtwide. 

• Manage related service providers such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and
physical therapy to ensure they are delivered as part of students' IEPs

• Evaluate related service providers such as school psychologists, speech therapists,
occupational therapists, and physical therapists in partnership with administrators. This
position will focus on ESS specific aspects of the positions.

• Serve as a resource for parents of students with disabilities, ensuring they are informed
about their parental rights, including services, accommodations, and their child's
progress.

• Monitor the implementation of special education policies across schools and support
staff in addressing any gaps or challenges in execution.

• Develops annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of system goals
and priorities. Assists in implementing the system’s goals and strategic commitment.

• Sets goals for self-improvement. Carries out the individual improvement plan developed
with supervisor.

• Provides leadership to ensure the utilization of a variety of effective and best-practice
instructional delivery systems and methodologies in an environment conductive to
quality teaching and learning.

• Works with the individual curriculum teams, whole staff, and individuals to assist them
in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of the curricula as it
relates to providing specially designed instruction for students with exceptional
needs.

• Provides oversight of special projects (federal and competitive grants, etc.) as they relate
to specialized curricula and instruction for students with disabilities;

• Assures compliance with federal, state, and local standards and legislated mandates.
Ensures alignment with all members of the school community. Seeks talent and support
from the community to further the educational goals of the district;

• Plans, coordinates and conducts appropriate meetings for area of responsibility;

• Serve as an effective member to appointed councils or committees. Works cooperatively
with colleagues within the DISTRICT and from other school Districts to promote regional
initiatives;

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in education and three years of experience; or an equivalent combination of directly-related education and experience.

Required Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid Arizona Special Education, Administrative, Principal and/or Curriculum certification.

• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP FPCC).

• Experience working within field of Special Education.

With a starting Annually Salary Pay of $65,443.
