Job Description:

Tanque Verde Unified School District is seeking a Campus Monitor at Tanque Verde High School. This is a classified full time and benefits eligible position. Experience working in schools or in security related field preferred. 

Oversees the protection of students, staff, patrons and property by helping to enforce District safety and security policies and procedures and helping to prevent injuries, thefts, fires, vandalism, or other undesired events and activities.

This position is expected to address situations as needed and in the moment. Working conditions include walking and/or standing for long periods of time in varying climate situations. 

Example of Duties:

-Patrol the campus (during school hours) to deter vandalism, theft, and unauthorized and/or unsafe use of the facilities.

-Supervise students in classrooms and outside as needed, ensuring student safety and for addressing improper student behavior.

-Monitors school activities and students for the purpose of ensuring safety of students, personnel and property; oversees student special events as required outside of the school day.

-Confiscation of drugs, and other serious contraband, following appropriate recovery and reporting procedures

-Responds to potential emergencies ( e.g. alarm calls, bomb threats, fights, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety of students, personnel and property; may transport student to hospital or home in school vehicle, if necessary.

-Reports potential campus crimes and/or student related community incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts and/or pursuing further action.

-Reports to appropriate administrators the presence of unauthorized persons for the purpose of ensuring safety of students, personnel and property.

-Assist in the apprehension of individuals suspected of engaging in illegal activities for the purpose fo preventing further illegal activities.

-Assist in emergencies and, as necessary, notify appropriate persons for the purpose of providing emergency care.

-Documents graffiti/vandalism with pictures and reports, assists with clean-up as necessary.

-Administer first aid for the purpose of providing emergency care. Knowledge of inhalers, Epi-pens, etc.

-Works closely with the administration to enforce discipline, ensure compliance with campus regulations, and promote a positive academic environment.

-Monitor parking lot for student activity; deal with improperly parked cars.

-Investigate and document  on-campus traffic accidents.

-Informs students, personnel and the general public as appropriate for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of laws, enforcement procedures and consequences of their actions.

-Interacts with other agencies (e.g. law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or receiving information regarding situations that may affect safety within the school environment.

-Exercises good judgment when dealing with the public.

-Will perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Ability to communicate effectively with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds.

-Ability to document accurately and prepare concise written reports.

-Ability to keep information confidential.

-Knowledge of CPR, general first aid, blood borne pathogens.

-Knowledge of policies and practices of District with regard to student discipline.

-Ability to work independently.

-Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

-Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time while exposed to extreme weather conditions.

-Skills in conflict resolution.

Minimum Qualification:

-High School diploma or general education degree (GED);

-One year prior experience; OR

- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training approved by the district.

This position pays $14.70 per hour.
