Position Summary:
The Assistant Principal for Academics works closely with department chairs and Academic Coaches to ensure curriculum and academic standards are implemented efficiently; works cooperatively with the principal and district administrative team to support increased student achievement and initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees student registration, coordinates annual student enrollment with local elementary districts, and prepares and maintains the master schedules.
- Coordinates annual student enrollment process with feeder elementary districts.
- Administers school policies and regulations as related to student discipline, attendance and application to due process.
- Supervises reporting and monitoring of student attendance, referrals, and discipline and work with other
- Arranges conferences with students, parents, and teachers when necessary regarding discipline and attendance or academic concerns.
- Facilitates and monitors curriculum implementation, evaluation and revision in accordance with District goals and the AZCCRs.
- Supervises the guidance department.
- Assists with the selection and assignment of certified and classified employees.
- Assists in the evaluation of staff performance as assigned by the Principal.
- Works with department chairs to coordinate and supervise student teachers and internships on campus.
- Assists with administration of the school budget.
- Assists in school compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of various governmental agencies.
- Assists with other general administration duties of the school, special programs, and other areas as assigned by the Principal.
Other:
Training and Experience:
- Master’s Degree.
- Prior administrative and/or department chair experience.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
- Valid Arizona Secondary Principal Certificate and DPS Fingerprint clearance card.
Knowledge Of:
- Personnel supervision.
- Scheduling and preparing a master schedule using available technology tools.
