Job Summary:

 

  • This position is charged with supporting grantees that serve Native American students.
  • Responsible for providing technical assistance and support to Johnson O'Malley (JOM) and Raising Indigenous Success in Education (RISE) grantees; as well as building the capacity of grantees to ensure effective implementation of grant goals and objectives that result in high academic achievement by Native American students.

·        Occasional in-state and rare out-of-state travel is required for this position.

 

The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs).  Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.

 

Job Duties:

 

  • Maintain communication, provide support and technical assistance for JOM grantees
  • Review grant applications and budgets, monitor progress, create reports, and collect data including student counts
  • Plan, develop, and implement capacity-building events and activities for Indian Education Committees, JOM coordinators, and staff supporting JOM students
  • Become familiar with the JOM Act, regulations, history, eligibility, objectives and documents
  • Maintain communication, provide support and technical assistance for RISE grantees
  • Review grant applications and budgets, monitor progress, and collect reports from RISE grantees
  • Provide presentations for and in conjunction with RISE grantees
  • Collaborate and build supportive relationships with OIE team members, other sections within ADE, and external partners to coordinate technical assistance, professional development, monitoring and alignment of resources for grantees to close achievement gaps and increase student academic outcomes
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge in:

  • General Grant Coordination and Compliance
  • Knowledge of Tribal, local, state, and federal government
  • Cultural literacy on Tribal Nations and understand their educational history
  • Professional experience at the federal, state, tribal, or Local Education Agency (LEA) level (including work at communicty-based organizations) related to education of PreK-12 settings and/or interventions inside/outside the classroom setting
  • Johnson O'Malley Act
  • A Bachelor’s degree in education, a related field, or equivalent experience to substitute for the degree, is required

 

Skills in:

  • Strong oral and written communication to convey a wide variety of information to diverse audiences
  • Strong inter-personal communication and emotional intelligence
  • Team collaboration-establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
  • Articulate and support the goals of the department to staff and external entities
  • Intermediate Microsoft Outlook, Work, Excel, and Internet browser skills
  • Training/Webinar applications, software, and tools for facilitating trainings
  • Planning, developing and monitoring budgets

 

Ability to:

  • Understand the "big picture" in a project while simultaneously being detail-oriented
  • Multi-task, to meet urgent/critical deadlines
  • Communicate effectively in large-group and one-on-one interactions
  • Evaluate situations and provide a timely and tactful responses
  • Develop rapport with a variety of stakeholders

 

Selective Preferences:

 

Preference will be given to those applicants with a Master’s degree in education or a related field.

Retirement:

 

You will be required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) upon your 27th week of employment, subject to waiting period. On or shortly after, your first day of employment you will be provided with enrollment instructions and effective date.
