Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Chairs Child Study Team meetings for determining appropriate action for special education referrals.
Evaluates students referred for special education consideration.
Consults with other special education personnel regarding recommended evaluations.
Prepares confidential psychological reports pertaining to each student evaluated prior to the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meeting.
Coordinates and chairs MET meetings.
Obtains parental signature on appropriate MET forms, placements statements, and eligibility forms.
Conducts reevaluation MET meetings, and testing if needed, of special education students within three years of the date of the previous MET meeting.
Participates in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, when appropriate.
Consults with parents, administrators, classroom teachers, special education teachers, counselors, and paraprofessionals regarding students’ behavioral difficulties.  Recommends appropriate behavioral interventions and assists with developing behavioral programs when needed.
Acts as a consultant regarding children’s psychological/psychiatric diagnoses when appropriate.
Facilitates the transfer of special education students in the Flowing Wells School District.
Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments, when appropriate.
Participates in Manifestation Determination Hearings when a student is suspended from school for 10 or more days.
Coordinates with other school districts or agencies regarding the evaluation, placement, and program planning of special education students, when appropriate.
Provides direct or indirect counseling services, when appropriate.
Serves as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for MET and IEP meetings when needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of diagnostic materials, interpretation, and reporting in regards to students with special needs related to educational performance.
Knowledge of the educational system and its critical components including federal and state regulations and ethical/legal responsibilities.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
Ability to deal effectively with matters of confidentiality.
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
Knowledge of district procedures and Board policies.
Ability to handle confrontation and conflice without an emotional response.
Skills in time management.

Qualifications:
Masters Degree or higher in School Psychology
Valid Arizona Department of Education School Psychologist Certificate
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
