JOB TITLE: Teacher-On-Special Assignment
REPORTS TO: Executive Director and Assistant Director 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 2025-2026 Academic School Year
CLOSING DATE: March 10, 2025
SITE LOCATION: This is a two-campus role, supporting both FJA’s elementary and middle school campuses
SALARY: Per Board-Approved Salary Guide, plus stipend

JOB GOAL: Candidate will work collaboratively with the grade level teachers and administrators to develop classroom strategies and implement individualized instruction to meet the needs of each individual student.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

1.      Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on education or related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

1.      Four or more years of demonstrated successful teaching, counseling, and/or school leadership experience
2.      Strong communication and organizational skills
3.      Ability to model FJA school standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism
4.      Valid DPS fingerprint card and clean background check

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Assistant Director, the Teacher on Special Assignment (ToSA) serves outside the classroom setting for assignments as determined by the needs of the Charter and specified by the Executive Director.  The ToSA provides direct curriculum and instructional support services including effective strategies and intervention in assigned areas.  The ToSA assists in providing support to site administrators and teachers in the improvement of various areas.  The ToSA provides an educational atmosphere where students can fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social-emotional growth.  The position requires the individual to organize and implement programs that provide enhanced discipline interventions, peer mediation, family outreach, staff training and learning gap mediation that results in students achieving academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional success.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborate with the directors and various stakeholders to develop new--and improve existing—programs that promote students’ academic, socio-emotional, and behavioral success.
  2. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment for students by participating in activities which include, but are not limited to, team teaching, meetings, staff development, and participation on various committees.
  3. Support strong family-school partnerships; implement a program to reduce chronic absenteeism.
  4. Design, conduct, and analyze family, student, and staff surveys; share results with the leadership team.
  5. Coordinate the school’s comprehensive Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.
  6. Participate in the school’s Child Study Team meetings and assist in the development and implementation of intervention strategies and programs that address the needs of at-risk students.
  7. Ensure a safe and productive learning environment by: disciplining students in accordance with established guidelines, conducting conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions, maintaining behavioral records, and communicating student issues with staff and families, implementing social interventions and peer-led groups for student social-emotional support.
  8. Provide and coordinate services and supplies to students who are eligible under the federal McKinney-Vento Act so they can overcome obstacles to receiving an education. Assist students and refer families to community-based services to support students’ well-being related to issues such as: drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, homelessness, and mental health.
  9. Assist with student supervision to ensure a safe, nurturing environment; assist with event supervision as assigned.
  10. Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures. Communicate with students, parents, and internal and external professionals within established timelines. Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community members. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
