School Leader – Glen Canyon Outdoor Academy

Glen Canyon Outdoor Academy (GCOA) is a free, public, outdoor-based charter school located in Page, Arizona. GCOA is hiring for a School Leader, starting for the 2025-2026 school year, with an anticipated start date of May 27th, 2025. 

GCOA serves Kindergarten through 8th grade students. GCOA is an Expeditionary Learning inspired school using an expeditionary model to provide an outdoor themed, integrated core curriculum, facilitated through a four-day school week.

The School Leader is key to the on-site management of GCOA. This role is expected to adhere to and advocate for the vision, mission, and model designed by the Founding Board, including insurance of academic growth and fiscal responsibility. 

We are looking for qualified School Leader candidates with an appreciation for the outdoors, enthusiasm, a growth mindset, and a collaborative and flexible attitude. Our thematic units are supported by our amazing geographic and cultural surroundings of Northern AZ, centered within what is known as the Grand Circle. Family and community engagement is prioritized to cultivate a collaborative learning family for each child.

AZDPS Fingerprint Clearance Card and Master’s Degree in education related field required. Teaching Certification and applicable experience preferred. Salary depends on education and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K with matching, and PTO. 

Page is located in Northern Arizona, just a few miles south of the Utah border. The nearest cities with small airports are approximately 2-2.5 hours away, and larger cities with major airports are approximately 4-6 hours away. Page is surrounded by the nearby attractions of Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Lake Powell, and is only a couple of hours away from the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce National Parks.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Glen Canyon Outdoor Academy (GCOA) is a Charter School that opened in the fall of 2022, serving the community of Page, Arizona and surrounding Navajo Nation Reservation communities. Page has a population of nearly 8,000 and is the largest town within a 130 mile radius. A benefit of being located in the center of the Grand Circle atop the majestic Colorado Plateau, Page is surrounded by stunning geology and tribal and public lands. The development of GCOA came from citizens of Page seeking to utilize the amazing natural resources that surround our area, capitalize on the rich culture of our people, and the desire to offer a unique and engaging learning model to our students.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The School Leader is key to the on-site management of GCOA. This role is expected to adhere to and advocate for the vision, mission, and model designed by the Founding Board, including insurance of academic growth and fiscal responsibility. The School Leader reports directly to and is held accountable by the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The GCOA School Leader key responsibilities include the following areas and may be
changed at any time based on the needs of GCOA:

● Implement systems designed to achieve the vision and mission.
● Monitor curriculum development, implementation and academic growth.
● Monitor and evaluate instruction.
● Provide customer care to parents, students, and teachers, included but not limited to
addressing concerns and ensuring an inclusive environment for all.
● Coordinate staff crew.
● Plan for professional development based on need and in alignment with GCOA’s vision
and mission.
● Utilize assessments to guide instruction.
● Lead and coordinate the MTSS process.
● Adhere to state, federal, and charter school regulations and compliance.
● Plan for and guide the team through yearly planning and events.
● Implement personnel policies to recruit, hire, evaluate, and supervise teachers. 

● Establish expectations for behavior of both staff and students; implementing practices
that engage students, parents, and staffing improving student success.
● Adhere to and hold accountable to student and staff handbooks.
● Other duties as assigned.

● Compliance with all GCOA policies and rules as well as the legal requirements of the
State of Arizona.
