Requirements                                                                       
5+ Experience as Transportation and/or Supervisor Position

Excellent Organizational Skills and Supervisory/Leadership Ability

Certified Classroom and Behind the Wheel Instructor

Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with P & S Endorsement

Industry Specific Knowledge and Experience:

Compliance with Federal and State DOT Regulations, Knowledge of Local Area Highway System, Operate All Types of Busses and Vehicles

Strong Commitment to Safety, CPR and First Aide Certified

Pass Extensive Background Check, Pass Drug Screening and Random Drug Tests

Corrected Vision Sufficient as Required by DOT

Pass Physical and Agility Test required by DPS and DOT

Maintain CDL instructor training license

Flexibility in Working Hours

Physical dexterity, coordination, mobility and visual acuity to safely operate a school bus and perform essential functions of the position.

General Responsibilities                                              

 Maintain an effective, professional demeanor at all times by establishing and maintaining rapport with all contacts including children, parents, staff and supervisors.Supervise staff including assigning/monitoring work, up-to-date training, resolving conflicts, interviewing and conducting performance evaluations.Possess in-depth knowledge of safety standards, federal and state laws, Arizona Department of Education regulations, and Governing Board policies and procedures directly related to transportation.Sufficient broad-based mechanical knowledge to supervise school mechanic and assist drivers when necessary. Work in conjunction with Human Resources to review applicants, interview and select the best-qualified candidates to match qualifications of bus driver positions.Actively train and supervise new bus drivers in accordance with all DOT and DPS laws and regulations.Serves as a backup bus driver when necessary.Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of roads and streets within the district boundaries

Scheduling

 Coordinate and manage the district transportation program utilizing related computer programs, maps and charts to establish routes that efficiently cover transportation of students to and from school on time.Establish regular and special needs routes, schedules and stops and provide maps for drivers as needed.Coordinate all student transportation activities with department heads, school officials and other individuals to meet transportation requirements for normal routes and special requests and activities. Work with district and school personnel to implement route changes and bus stops to ensure maximum safety and cost effectiveness.

 

Communication

Effectively supervise all staff and ensure that routes are covered, and students are delivered to and from school on time daily.Promptly mediate all parent/student and teacher issues and complaints related to transportation.Maintain and oversee online system for student transportation

 

Discipline

Participate in student/parent conferences to help resolve and prevent misconduct that causes unsafe conditions in transportation.Advise TOA of discipline problems immediately using the discipline reporting system.Advise parents via phone and mail of all discipline problems and bus suspensions immediately.

 

Safety

Along with the mechanic, develop preventative maintenance programs, which are in compliance with all safety requirements.Receive driver reports on mechanical problems that cause hazards and ensure all repairs are completed prior to the bus being put back on the road.Daily complete all vehicle mileage and fuel reports as required by DPS and the District.Conduct continuing driver training and traffic safety programs and hold regular staff meetings to address pertinent changes in DOT and DPS requirements and laws.Conduct accident investigations and supervise all reporting to appropriate law enforcement and insurance officials.Monitor ongoing training in First Aid and CPR certifications and determine random drug testing requirements for all drivers as necessary.

 Budgets

Work in conjunction with the Business Manager to develop and plan transportation budget requirements and administration of funds with budget constraints.  Maintain accurate cost accounting, maintenance and repair and mileage records on each vehicle.

Documentation/Reports

Ensure all required paperwork is completed accurately and on time as required by DOT, DPS and the District. Complete driver’s log as required by DPS, DOT and the District.
