Salary Range:

$60,000.00 - $68,500.00 USD annually.

The Senior Dean of Students assists the site Principals to promote and ensure a positive school culture, high academic achievement and a safe and orderly environment for all learners. The Senior Dean of Students provides and supervises in a fair and consistent manner an effective discipline system consistent with the philosophy, values and mission of ASU Prep.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or equivalent subject, required.

  • 1-3 years of successful teaching experience

  • 1-3 years of progressive leadership experience

  • Arizona Administrative Certification, preferred

  • Experience in facilities management and emergency preparedness, preferred 

  • Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain the annual school safety plan with your Principal, ensuring proper maintenance and security measures are in place. Plans should often be reviewed and modified as necessary.

  • Maintain the highest standards of student safety and conduct. Ensuring to enforce discipline measures as necessary in accordance with the School Committee policy and the students’ rights to due process. Documenting discipline matters in accordance with charter policy and state reporting requirements.

  • Oversee and evaluate the campus safety team using the appropriate instrument

  • Collaborates with School Resource Officer (SRO) in implementation of the schools Emergency Operating Procedure.

  • Collaborate with Campus Facilities Coordinator to ensure maintenance of campus facilities.

  • Supports in truancy prevention and collaborates in attendance interventions.

  • Collaborates with student support team to lead preventative workshops based on discipline data.

  • Ensure safety, appropriate conduct and general welfare of students.

  • Creates community relationships with students and families by meeting with parents regularly regarding their student and to review discipline concerns timely.

  • Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with staff, administration, families, students, and representatives of resource agencies within the community.

  • Monitor student progress, patterns of attendance, and discipline for monthly reporting.

  • Create and maintain a process to improve student attendance. 

  • Participate in the classification, promotion, and/or retention of students.

  • Serve as campus evening supervisor on a rotational basis with other administrative personnel.

  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.


 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include decisions related to selection, performance appraisal, discipline and salary recommendations. 

  • Build strong and empowered teams by providing direction, delegation, counsel, mentoring and expertise to individual team leads, while retaining overall responsibility and accountability for results. 

  • Promote and encourage the development, training and promotion of staff members to ensure the perpetuation of a professional and competent workforce. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of Arizona Department of Education School Preparedness Standards

  • Knowledge of the Downtown Phoenix Community as relevant to the students, families, and staff the site serves.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to communicate and apply leadership skills within a shared decision-making model.

  • Demonstrated ability to uphold and enforce provided guidelines, policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships

  • Demonstrated knowledge with a school-wide discipline program.

  • Demonstrated knowledge with an ethnically diverse student population.

  • Ability to articulate, represent professional demeanor, and ability to take initiative.

TRAVEL: 

Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
