Job Description:

JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist

CLASSIFICATION: Occupational Therapist

REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Student Services

POSITION SUMMARY: The occupational therapist shall provide direct and consultative services of occupational therapy to those students whose I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) specified such service in an elementary (pre-K through 8) educational environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate student needs first students recommended for therapy.
• The occupational therapist shall secure appropriate medical documentation for each student requiring occupational therapy. This shall include up-to-date medical documentation.
• Develop individual therapy plans for each student requiring occupational therapy services as per an individual education plan.
• Make recommendations for any changes in the programming during the year and maintain occupational therapy progress records on each student.
• Make recommendations for occupational therapy equipment or supplies needs.
• Prepare progress reports at the end of each grading period.
• Provide in-service as well as consult with parents, medical personnel, or school staff regarding identified students and their needs as well as attend IEP/MET meetings.
• Maintain a contact log of services to be updated weekly at each school site.
• Monitor and evaluate services rendered by the instructional staff which affects physical development.
• May include supervision of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or Technician.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must be licensed by the Arizona Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.
Previous pediatric and school experience desired.
Must have the ability to work effectively with district and school site administrators, teacher, support staff, parents and community agencies.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:?The working environment is a classroom setting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Ten-month, Occupational Therapist Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.
EVALUATION:
Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of certified staff.
