$36.00 - $41.00 USD hourly

The Physical Therapist (PT) works collaboratively with members of the team to assess students and assist in developing a plan for integrating services. Additionally, the PT plays a valuable role in assisting school administrators to address issues such as access to programs and facilities, building modifications or new construction, special transportation, curriculum development, safety and injury prevention, and technology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Licensed as a Physical Therapist by the Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience.
- Experience working in a school setting, preferred.
- Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses school site facilities for the purpose of ensuring accessibility in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Assesses student functional mobility, gross motor skills and motor development (e.g. motor coordination, neuromuscular development, muscle strength, etc.); Considers student’s physical presentation and related health/medical/historical factors contributing to safety, comfort and compatibility with environmental expectations for the purpose of determining students’ deficits and development of recommendations.
- Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations and/or referrals.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. evaluations, observations, progress, contacts with parents, teachers, and outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information.
- Trains parents and school staff in activities, use of assistive technology, and/or appropriate accommodations to be implemented throughout the school day and across environments.
- Screening and evaluating students with disabilities or special needs.
- Collaborates with teaching staff to identify and implement alternative instructional strategies, environmental modifications, and changes to routines or schedules.
- Presents information on various topics related to Physical Therapy for the purpose of educating parents, students, school personnel and staff.
- Maintains accurate student records and keeps information secure and confidential.
- Performs screenings and observations of students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment.
- Researches and coordinates resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ functional goals.
- Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the field of physical therapy as well as special education requirements (both federal and state regulations).
- Interpersonal communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to multi-task in a high energy, high volume working environment.
- Ability to articulate the role of the physical therapy in the evaluation, intervention planning, and intervention process.
- Ability to analyze and assess tasks relative to areas of performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and student factors to implement the intervention plan.
- Ability to articulate, represent professional demeanor and ability to take initiative.
- Knowledge of fundamental theory, principals, techniques and equipment used in physical rehabilitative therapy.
- Technical competence in designing and implementing treatment plans.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates proficiency in use of MS Office and other software/applications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
