- Arizona Teaching Certificate in approved area(s)/endorsement(s)
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of Gila River Indian Community preferred
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
JOB GOAL: To provide all students with an enriched Media Center environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of Media Center resources. To direct, advise, and maintain a computer education program to the benefit of the students. To encourage and assist teachers in utilizing media as educational tools to enhance student instruction.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates and supervises the Media Center as assigned.
- Evaluates, selects and secures for the Media Center materials (printed, software “a.v. and computer”, supplies) as needed or requested.
- Recommends to teacher materials appropriate for the implementation and improvement of instruction.
- Makes Media Center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials and equipment the Media Center acquires.
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient circulation/cataloging system for all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
- Arranges for inter-library loan of materials of interest or use of teachers.
- Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
- Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
- Teaches students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
- Teaches students proper care and handling of Media Center materials.
- Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
- Participates on curriculum committees and works with teachers and staff to procure materials and hardware, both audio-visual and computer, to meet instructional needs.
- Counsels with and gives reading guidance to all students.
- Arranges seasonal book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center patrons.
- Supervises media center aide (if applicable) in the performance of his/her duties.
- Participates actively in library and other educational and professional associations on the local, regional, state, and national level.
- Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the Media Center collection.
- Performs clerical routines necessary for the smooth operations of the media center.
- Administers and efficient system of distribution and retrieval of audio-visual and computer hardware and software.
- Organizes and administers procedures for the processing of requests for materials and maintenance of audio-visual and computer hardware.
- Develops and maintains inventory of all materials, printed, as well as audio-visual/computer equipment as instructional tools.
- Coordinates film and other material distribution and collection within the school and between the school and central depository.
- Provides instruction for staff in the proper use and operation of audio-visual and computer equipment as instructional tools.
- Performs minor repairs and distributes equipment to classrooms as requested.
- Sets up and arranges for operative AV equipment for special programs and meetings.
- Evaluates on an annual basis the overall Media Center education program of the school and makes recommendations regarding the program to the building principal and superintendent.
- Coordinates utilization of computers as instructional tools within assigned school.
- Will perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
