GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports District schools and principals in their effort to foster an optimal educational environment for students. Provide quality transportation services for District students. Plan and supervise bus schedules, safety programs, maintenance programs, training programs for all bus drivers and daily operations. Recognize that the transportation program is part of an overall education program, and ensure that all students needing transportation to and from school are provided this service according to the policies and regulations of the District.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Responsible for the supervision of all transportation staff.
- Coordinates schedules, time cards and payroll information for each bus driver.
- Interviews and recommends personnel for employment in the Transportation Department.
- Trains, reviews and evaluates performance of bus drivers.
- Maintain compliance with statute, DPS & district policy requirements; Assure that each bus driver is appropriately licensed, trained, and receives in-service according to State and District standards and requirements.
- Assists in providing in-service programs concerning proper methods and conduct in the handling of students with safety being the number one priority.
- Conducts monthly safety meetings for transportation staff.
- Directs the mechanic in establishing and implementing a preventive maintenance program for all District transportation vehicles.
- Establishes and revises, as necessary, school bus routes and schedules, always looking for efficiencies.
- Provides transportation services for field trips, athletic and special events.
- Coordinates transportation, including special transportation needs and programs with the Principal of each school.
- Understands the role of the Director of Transportation is to support the schools.
- Assists the Chief Financial Officer with the development of policies, administrative regulations and procedures pertaining to transportation services.
- Assures compliance with all Arizona traffic laws and school bus requirements. Submits reports of any discrepancies to the Chief Financial Officer at the earliest opportunity.
- Provides transportation reports for the District, the State Department of Education, and the Department of Public Safety.
- Assists the Chief Financial Officer in development of annual budget of operations and capital expenditures for transportation.
- Oversee appropriate warehouse and supplies management activities to provide for the proper maintenance of inventories and to assure a continued flow of operating supplies for all District operations.
- Establishes and maintains a systematic collection of daily data, including numbers of miles driven and hours worked, and amount of gasoline/fuel consumed.
- Maintains and reviews weekly transportation data collection
- Serves as a member of the CCUSD leadership team.
- Seeks innovative ways to run safe and efficient systems that are user friendly and communicative with parents.
- Performs other duties and accept additional responsibilities assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree or three years in student transportation management, dispatch, or other supervisory position in student transportation.
- Possess a Commercial Driver’s License, Class ‘B’ with a ‘P’ endorsement, and an Arizona School Bus Driver's Certificate.
- Experience in supervision of personnel
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of mechanical aspects of school buses and fleet maintenance.
- Knowledge of school bus routing and scheduling.
