Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Special Education Resource Teacher is responsible for providing specially designed instruction and case management services to students with disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Arizona Department of Education (ADE) regulations, and district policies. This position ensures that students receive high‑quality instructional support, appropriate accommodations, and access to the general education curriculum through effective collaboration with staff, families, and service providers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specially Designed Instruction
· Deliver evidence‑based, specially designed instruction (SDI) aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
· Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
· Provide academic, behavioral, and functional skill instruction in individual or small‑group settings.
· Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data and documented needs.
Case Management
· Manage a caseload of approximately 30 students receiving special education services.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding special education supports and student progress.
· Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in accordance with IDEA and ADE requirements.
· Coordinate services with related service providers, school psychologists, and other specialists.
IEP Development and Compliance
· Develop, write, and revise IEPs that reflect student needs, services, accommodations, and measurable goals.
· Facilitate IEP meetings, ensuring meaningful participation from families and team members.
· Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and provide required reporting within established timelines.
· Ensure fidelity of implementation for all IEP services, accommodations, and modifications.
Collaboration and Consultation
· Partner with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented effectively.
· Provide consultation, modeling, and support to general education staff regarding instructional strategies and behavior supports.
· Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, and required professional development.
· Maintain effective communication with administrators, teachers, and families.
Assessment and Data Responsibilities
· Conduct academic and functional assessments to support eligibility determinations, IEP development, and instructional planning.
· Collect, analyze, and maintain data on student performance and progress toward IEP goals.
· Support state and district testing processes, including implementation of approved accommodations.
Qualifications
Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with an approved Special Education endorsement (e.g., Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Cross‑Categorical).
Knowledge of IDEA, ADE regulations, and best practices in special education instruction and compliance.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and implement behavior support strategies.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Experience with IEP management systems and progress monitoring tools preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a classroom and school environment.
May require lifting, positioning, or assisting students as needed.
May involve travel between classrooms depending on school needs.
